How to Use This Calculator

  1. Pick your odds format
  2. Enter the line (for example, 2.5 goals or 47.5 points)
  3. Add the over and under odds
  4. Type in your stake
  5. See the payouts, profits and margin

Formula

Payout = Stake × Decimal Odds

Margin = (1 / Over Odds) + (1 / Under Odds) − 1

Lines ending in .5 cannot push. Lines on whole numbers (2.0, 47.0) push if the total lands exactly on the line — the stake is returned.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are over/under bets?

Over/under (also called totals) bets are wagers on whether the combined score, goals or points in a game will end up higher (over) or lower (under) than a posted line. Lines such as 2.5 (soccer) or 47.5 (NFL) are the most common, and that .5 makes sure there can’t be a push.

What if the score lands exactly on the line?

If the line is a whole number (such as 2.0) and the total matches it exactly, the bet pushes, so your stake comes straight back with no profit. Half-point lines (.5) sidestep this completely. Quarter lines (.25, .75) split your stake, so one half pushes while the other half wins or loses.

Why are over/under odds usually around -110?

Bookmakers set the line to draw roughly equal betting on each side. The -110 odds (1.91 in decimal) reflect the usual 4.5-5% bookmaker margin. Sharper books might offer -105 or even -102 on their top markets.

How do I spot value in totals?

Hold the bookmaker’s line up against a model, like Poisson for soccer or points-per-possession for basketball. If your projection is off from the line by more than the margin, that can be a sign of value. And always shop around at several books for the best line and odds.
